Happy Days Day Care
Happy Days was established in 1992 to meet the growing needs of Sligo's working parents. It is the longest established Day Care Centre in Sligo.
Wheelchair access available.
What We Offer
We offer a wide range of full and part-time options for parents requiring education and care for their children from the ages of 3 months to 12 years. We are open from 7.30am to 6.15pm Monday to Friday all year round except bank holidays, Good Friday, 23 and 24 December.
We use the High/Scope approach which encourages:
- active learning – enabling children to construct their own learning and make sense of the world;
- key experiences – creative interactions with people, materials and ideas that promote children's cognitive, emotional, language, social and physical growth;
- adult/child interactions – active learning depends on positive adult-child interactions with a strong emphasis on a problem-solving approach to conflict;
- learning environment – an active learning environment provides children with ongoing opportunities to make choices and decisions;
- daily routine – a consistent daily routine supports active learning. This includes the plan-do-review process during which children make plans and choices and then have recall time to enhance their learning;
- assessment – children's development is recorded through the Child Observation Record and is used in the daily planning and also to ensure that each child is fulfilling their potential.
Why High/Scope?
Children in High/Scope programmes out-perform children significantly in comparison programmes, particularly in the following areas:
- initiative – including complex play, joining-in programme activities, expressing choice and verbalising needs;
- social relations – including relating to peers and adults, social problem solving and awareness of social cues;
- motor development – including music and movement, focusing energies during specific physical activities which enhance brain development as well as promoting physical skills;
- cognitive development – including representation, classification and language skills, memory, cognition.
Why Happy Days?
Here at Happy Days, we value your child as a unique individual and we provide an environment where each child is encouraged to reach their full potential at their own pace. We respect parents as the children's first teachers and will always work together to ensure the child's well being.
Our Staff
We have 22 fully qualified members of staff working in Happy Days.
Extra Activities
Keeping in mind the many diverse needs and interests of the children, we offer a range of extra activities such as:
-
conversational Spanish classes for pre-school and after-school children,
music and percussion classes, which encourage an understanding and appreciation of rhythm and beat; - environmental awareness – this takes the form of planting flowers and vegetables, woodcraft, exploring natural materials and completing special art projects.
Whilst each of the above activities are part of the child's day at Happy Days, they are carried out by additional staff, each of whom have specific qualifications in the area. The children are accompanied to these activities by their usual caregiver.
Happy Days Bus
Happy Days has its own bus, which regularly takes children on trips to our Happy Days Adventure Play Centre, schools and other destinations.
Location
Happy Days has recently re-located to a new purpose-built and specifically designed building. It is 6,500 square feet of dedicated space for children consisting of 7 rooms, its own indoor play area, kitchen for providing children's meals and a modern garden area with slides and climbing frames.
